Thank you for this Kiran. It feels like such a release to do this. Provides mental clarity too. I find it the hardest to let go of clothes but I keep reminding myself that it makes space for new things to arrive in your life 🙂
I completely get that, clothes can hold so many memories, versions of us, seasons we’ve lived through. Letting them go can feel like shedding pieces of identity. But you’re right… there’s such a release in it too. A softness. A clearing.
When I let go of clothes that no longer feel like me, I can almost feel my energy shift, like I’m gently closing the chapter on who I’ve already outgrown. And that space really does make room for what’s next, not just new clothes, but a new sense of self.
It’s not just decluttering. It’s becoming lighter, clearer, more you.
When I read the beginning of your post this quote of The Dutch House of Ann Patchett came to mind: "There are a few times in life when you leap up and the past that you’d been standing on falls away behind you, and the future you mean to land on is not yet in place, and for a moment you’re suspended, knowing nothing and no one, not even yourself". I think that we often find ourselves somewhere in between..and just have to find the right thing to help us land. Thanks for the inspiration...will start explore drawers ;-)
Oh, that quote is exactly the feeling I was trying to describe, suspended between what was and what will be, with no solid ground yet beneath your feet. That space can feel disorienting, but it’s also where something new begins to take shape. It’s the part of the story where we’re quietly rewriting ourselves.
And yes, sometimes the “landing” starts in the smallest, most ordinary ways… a drawer, a shelf, a corner of a room that finally breathes again. It’s amazing how clearing a bit of physical space can help us find emotional footing too.
Thank you for sharing this, truly. It’s a reminder that we’re all figuring out that in-between together.
The physical space and the inner space are so connected. When I’m clearing a drawer or a cupboard, I can feel things loosening inside me too, almost like the mind finally has room to breathe. And you’re right, the beginning always feels heavy, almost overwhelming, but once you start and the weight begins to lift, there’s this sense of lightness, even relief.
Making space really is an invitation, for peace, clarity, and whatever is meant to come next. It’s not just tidying… it’s becoming.
