The Quiet Middle of Becoming
Where nothing feels certain, but everything is shifting, softly, quietly, perfectly on time.
Lately, I’ve been sitting in the in-between, that tender space between who I used to be and who I’m becoming.
It’s not the most comfortable place to be. It’s quiet, reflective, and, at times, lonely. But it’s also where I’m learning the most about myself, not through action or achievement, but through stillness. Through noticing what no longer feels right, what I’ve outgrown, and what I deeply crave more of.
It’s strange how life can look full on the outside, the work, the routines, the relationships, the rituals, and yet inside, there’s a subtle emptiness. Not sadness exactly, but a feeling of not being fully here. I show up every day, for myself, for Khushi, for my work, for others, but lately, I’ve been aware that I’m not fully feeling any of it.
And that realisation landed like a quiet aha. I’ve been living on autopilot, not because I’m disconnected from life, but because I’ve been overconnected to responsibility, to consistency, to holding everything and everyone together. Somewhere along the way, I lost my own rhythm.
I was watching ‘Selling Sunset’ and ‘And Just Like That…’ the other day, both so different, yet both stirred something deep in me. I saw women living boldly, dressing beautifully, owning their spaces, their voices, their bodies. And I realised, I’ve been dimming my own spark, mistaking quiet for smallness.
When I looked at photos of myself from when I moved to the UK, something inside me softened. I didn’t just look different; I felt different. I saw a woman who dressed like she adored herself, who showed up for her life, not from duty, but from desire.
I miss her energy. Her presence. Her ability to move through the world unapologetically.
That was another aha moment for me, this in-between season is not about reinventing myself, it’s about returning. Returning to the parts of me I’ve left behind while becoming who I am now.
And here’s the truth: I’m not unhappy. I’m not lost. I’m just in transition. It’s a phase where my body, mind, and soul are recalibrating. I don’t feel entirely at home in my clothes, my routines, or even my skin, but I know that this discomfort is just growth in disguise.
There’s also this quiet ache, not just for rest, but for connection. For companionship. For the kind of love where I don’t have to hold everything together, where someone else’s energy can hold me for a change. I’m tired of being the strong one all the time. I want softness. I want to be cared for, not because I can’t care for myself, but because I deserve to be held, too.
But even as I long for that, I know the work right now is to come home to myself. To clean my inner house, to clear the static, to reconnect with the woman who’s still here, maybe quieter, maybe more tender, but still full of life waiting to be lived.
So, I’m honouring what I need right now: lots of alone time.
Time to breathe, to walk, to listen to my own thoughts without interruption.
Time to slow down and recalibrate. Time to declutter not just my home, but my inner world, to release what’s crowding my energy. Time to remember that I am not falling behind. I am simply regrouping.
I know now that “living fully” doesn’t always look grand or glamorous; sometimes it’s a quiet cup of tea, a hot shower, putting on lipstick even when you’re staying home, opening a window and breathing in the season. It’s the small, steady acts of presence that reconnect me to myself.
And that’s what this in-between space is teaching me, how to live without rushing to the next version. How to rest in what’s here, and trust that clarity will return once I’ve created space for it.
This is not a pause. It’s not lostness. It’s a season of integration.
I’m learning that I don’t have to have everything figured out to live with intention. That I can feel disconnected and still be deeply alive. That I can long for more and still be grateful for what I have. And that even in this in-between, where nothing feels fully settled, I am still growing, still evolving, still becoming.
So for now, I’m choosing to stop searching and start softening. To stop striving and start listening. Because sometimes, the most sacred thing we can do is stop trying to get somewhere and instead, allow ourselves to be here.
Here, in the quiet middle.
Here, where the next chapter is still being written.
Here, where I am learning to live fully, not someday, but now.
A reflection for you
Take a quiet moment, maybe with a cup of tea, a blanket, or the soft hum of the morning, and ask yourself:
What part of me is ready to return?
What have I been holding on to that’s asking to be released?
Where in my life have I been showing up, but not feeling present?
What does “living fully” mean to me right now, not someday, but today?
Write freely, without editing. Let your truth rise to the surface, even if it’s uncomfortable, even if it’s tender.
Remember: this in-between season is not a setback. It’s an invitation to meet yourself where you are, with love, grace, and a soft kind of honesty.
